As we journey through the season of Lent we continue to focus on prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Within our classrooms we have reflected on how does this look like for adults and how it looks like for children. Our focus at St Mary has mainly centred around what this means for our students.
Prayer is something that the students at St Mary’s understand and participate throughout every school day.
However, fasting and almsgiving can be harder to understand. Fasting doesn’t mean to fast from special foods, fasting can be fasting from saying unkind things, from thinking unkind thoughts or even fasting from behaviour that is not always nice, Almsgiving can be seen as doing or saying something nice for others, for helping someone in need. Almsgiving can also be helping our families when they are busy. Fasting can also be as easy as not being disrespectful to others, even our brothers and sisters.
Today the Grades Prep/One/Two class led our School Mass with the focus on almsgiving. They read beautifully. Thank you.
Our children are busily preparing for our Holy Week enactment, which, will be presented next Thursday at 12:00 midday in the St Mary Mackillop Hall. This is an excellent way for our students to learn and reflect on Jesus’ final hours.
A small reflection for us during next week. This forms a part of a hymn that we sing at St Mary’s School
We are God’s hands, we are God’s eyes
We are the love, the heart of Christ
Oh Spirit move, our hearts and minds
That we may see, peace in our time
That we may be, peace in our time
Kind Regards
