Thank you to Ms. Haughie and Grades Five and Six for leading us in our Mass Celebration of World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. This annual day, established by Pope Francis in 2015, is an opportunity to pray, reflect and act to care for God’s creation.
This World Day of Prayer also falls at the beginning of the Season of Creation, which runs until 4 October, the feast of St Francis of Assisi. This is an ecumenical season ( all Christian Churches worldwide), dedicated to prayer for the protection of creation and the promotion of sustainable lifestyles.
There are many ways we can respond to Pope Francis’ call to care for the gift of God’s creation – why not take some time out of your day to walk in your local park or take a few moments to thank God for the flowers growing in your garden? Or, take time to sit quietly or read a book or a prayer in a special place of God’s Creation. Or take time to look at the faces of your beautiful children and see the love they have for you.
I found this beautiful prayer by Rachel Mc Carthy.
Praised Be
Living God,
have mercy on us,
for the times we forget
that we belong to each other.
You call us to be still,
to hear the whisper of our Sister Wind,
to feel the radiance of our Brother Sun,
and to be nourished by our Mother Earth.
Renew us in your healing love.
Inspire us to water the earth,
and nurture one another,
so all may flourish.
Together, as one family,
may we always sing your praise.
Through Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Our beautiful world has many gifts for us, but we need to remember to care for this gift so that it can also be a gift for our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On Friday, 9th September, the Grades 5/6 students will be leading us in a liturgy for the whole school. All are welcome to join us.
Andrew Chinn
We are very excited that Andrew Chinn is coming to St Mary’s Catholic Primary School on Wednesday the 14th of September. Andrew is the creator of many of the songs that we sing at Liturgies and School Masses. Some of his songs are; These Hands, Rainbow, In the Beginning, We are God’s Hands and God made them all. The children will work with Andrew to learn and practise some of his songs throughout the day. There will be a Whole School Concert from 2:10pm – 3:10pm in the Mary Mackillop Hall. All parents and families are invited to come along to see what their children have been working on through the day. It is always a very exciting concert. Please put this date in your diary.
Kind Regards
