Religious News: RUOK?
Are You Okay Day is an annual observation in Australia, celebrated on the second Thursday of every September. This year, it falls on September 8. On this day, Australians check up on each other and have conversations and really listen to each other.
The history of R U OK?
In 1995, Barry Larkin’s suicide left his family and friends in deep grief with many unanswered questions. In 2009, Gavin Larkin chose to do something to honour his father and try to prevent more suicides. He came up with one question only to ask each other. “Are you okay?” Gavin and a few of his friends decided to turn this into a national campaign. From this realization and with their expertise and passion, R U OK? was born.
I really like this clip on youtube from last year. It was filmed by many schools in the Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong.
