MIDDLE CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES

As part of our study of 'Winter weather' students read "Hello Lighthouse" and

"The LIGHTHOUSE KIDS of Maatsuyker Island", which is a true story about a family living in a lighthouse off the coast of Tasmania. The Artwork reflects the stormy winter seas and the story writing includes the simple steps of Narrative Writing -

Beginning (Introduction), Middle and End.

THE LIGHTHOUSE BY TYLER.

Once upon a time there was a big lighthouse and in there was an old man called Jerry. He makes the light in the lighthouse shine so that boats don’t hit reefs and rocks.Meanwhile Jerry was fixing the light but it wasn’t working!

“Oh bother,” said Jerry, where is the lightbulb?

“Calm down Jerry, re-trace your steps.”

“Oh where is it?”

“Is it down stairs?” “Nope, not downstairs.”

“What about upstairs?” “Nope.”

“In the boat?........Hmm, no it is not!”

“Hmm, where can I look? Maybe my pockets?” “I hope.”

“Hmm…3 hours later, hmm…. The LIGHTHOUSE!! no.”

“Hmm…10 hours later, what about the ………………..”

“There it is, let’s put you back” and he puts it back and it started to shine.

THE LIGHTHOUSE BY JONATHAN. (Introduction)

CRASH! It woke me up from a very good sleep. Oh no a cargo ship has crashed, what do I do? I’ll get my tools and go outside to see if the lighthouse is OK…..

THE FRIENDLY LIGHT HOUSE BY ALICE. (Introduction)

The sea was rough, crash went the waves. In the distance was the old lighthouse with broken glass and with a squeaky door that only squeaks when it is windy and night time….

THE LIGHTHOUSE BY SARA (Introduction)

The sea was slowly rising in the air. The captain was in a small boat, it was a very windy day. But on a hill there was a heavy tall old man holding a handle, so we ran back to the lighthouse. Suddenly the waves crashed into the lighthouse….

THE LIGHTHOUSE BY LACHLAN. (Introduction)

A long time ago Jack went on a ship to catch some fish but instead he found a LIGHTHOUSE! It got built in 1855 and today is 1950. He got off his ship.

Then he went into the lighthouse. Then he had a BIG!! Problem, Jack noticed that his ship had floated away….

At the bright lighthouse the keeper looked outside. She saw a BIG boat, it was coming fast! But Lucy didn’t know what to do…

THE STORMY NIGHT BY ELLIE. (Introduction)

It was a stormy night, there were three fishermen Joe, Amanda and Bob.

It was very windy and cold and the waves were giant.

Then they tried to sleep………
