A birthday cake might be like a rock if you let the cake get stale and hard, but how would a rock ever be like a birthday cake?
If you have ever made a birthday cake or watched someone make one, you would notice that a cake is made of a MIX of ingredients - like eggs, flour milk, and maybe chocolate, all stirred together before you bake it. Well, most rocks are a mixture too - made of one or more minerals "stirred" together in different ways.
For example, granite includes the mineral quartz and feldspar. You may have seen granite in a kitchen (where you make cakes) because a lot of kitchens counter tops are made of granite.
But plain old rocks are EVERYWHERE, so watch for interesting rocks wherever you go. When you pick up a rock, look it over carefully and see if you think it might be made of many ingredients- and think about how God made all these rocks and minerals and stirred them together so you could discover them.
